Author Guidelines
Thank you for considering submitting your manuscript to the Journal of Multicultural Education Studies (JOMES). We aim to publish high-quality, original research that contributes to the understanding of multicultural education, diversity, inclusion, and equity. To assist you in preparing your manuscript for submission, we have outlined the following guidelines. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that your submission is processed smoothly.
1. General Submission Guidelines
- Originality: Submissions must be original, unpublished works. Manuscripts should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere at the time of submission.
- Language: All manuscripts must be written in English. Authors whose first language is not English should consider having their manuscript professionally edited before submission.
- Word Limit:
- Research Articles: Between 4,000 and 8,000 words (including references, tables, and figures).
- Review Articles: Between 6,000 and 10,000 words.
- Case Studies and Policy Papers: Between 3,000 and 5,000 words.
- File Format: Submit your manuscript in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format. Please do not submit PDFs.
- References: Use APA 7th Edition referencing style for citations and references. Ensure that all references are accurate and up-to-date.
- Abstract: Include an abstract of up to 250 words, summarizing the main objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions of the manuscript.
- Keywords: Provide 4 to 6 keywords that best describe the content of your manuscript.
- Figures and Tables: All figures and tables must be placed within the text where they are first mentioned. Each table and figure must have a title and be referred to by number (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1). Ensure that all images are of high quality (300 DPI).
2. Manuscript Structure
Manuscripts should be structured as follows:
- Title Page: The title page should include the manuscript title, author(s) full name(s), institutional affiliation(s), corresponding author’s contact information (including email address), and a brief biographical note for each author (max 50 words).
- Abstract: An abstract of no more than 250 words.
- Keywords: List 4 to 6 keywords that are relevant to your manuscript.
- Main Text:
- Introduction: Provide an introduction to the topic, outlining the research questions or objectives, the significance of the study, and the theoretical framework or context.
- Literature Review: A review of relevant literature in the field of multicultural education and related topics, highlighting gaps in the existing research that your study addresses.
- Methodology: Describe the research design, participants (if applicable), data collection methods, and analysis techniques used in the study. Be clear and transparent in your description of the methodology.
- Results: Present the results of the study clearly and systematically, using tables, figures, and narratives where appropriate.
- Discussion: Interpret the findings, discussing their implications for theory, practice, and future research. Relate the findings to the existing literature and explain the significance of your study.
- Conclusion: Summarize the main findings, the contribution of the research, and suggest directions for future research in the field of multicultural education.
- References: Include a complete list of references, formatted according to APA 7th Edition.
3. Submission Process
- Online Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via our online submission system. Please visit our website and follow the submission instructions to upload your manuscript.
- Cover Letter: A cover letter must be included with your submission. The cover letter should briefly describe the content of the manuscript, its significance to the field of multicultural education, and why it is appropriate for JOMES. The cover letter should also confirm that the manuscript is original and not under review elsewhere.
- Peer Review: All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review process. The identities of both the authors and the reviewers will remain confidential throughout the review process.
4. Ethical Considerations
- Plagiarism: The manuscript should not contain any form of plagiarism. Authors are expected to ensure that all ideas, data, or text that is not their own is properly cited and acknowledged.
- Ethical Approval: If your research involves human subjects, you must include a statement confirming that ethical approval was obtained from the relevant ethics committee or institutional review board (IRB). Authors must also provide details of participant consent where applicable.
- Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research findings or the review process.
- Data Availability: Authors are encouraged to make data available in a public repository or provide access to the data upon request. If data cannot be shared, authors should state the reason for this in the manuscript.
5. Copyright and Licensing
- By submitting your manuscript to JOMES, you agree to assign copyright to the journal upon acceptance for publication.
- JOMES publishes articles under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This means that your article will be freely available to anyone, and readers can share, remix, and adapt your work as long as they attribute the original work to you.
- Authors may also post their preprint manuscripts on personal or institutional websites, provided the article includes proper citation of JOMES as the journal of publication.
6. Revisions
- Decision: After peer review, authors will receive one of the following decisions:
- Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication with no or minor revisions.
- Revise and Resubmit: The manuscript requires revisions. Authors should address the reviewers' comments and resubmit the manuscript for further consideration.
- Reject: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in JOMES.
- Revisions: Authors who are asked to revise their manuscripts should submit a revision within the timeframe specified by the editorial team. A revised manuscript must include a response to each reviewer’s comment, detailing the changes made or explaining why certain suggestions were not implemented.
7. Publication Fee
- JOMES is an open-access journal and does not charge authors any submission or publication fees.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
