The Journal of Multicultural Education Studies (JOMES) is focused on advancing scholarly research, theoretical discussions, and practical applications related to multicultural education. The journal aims to explore the intersectionality of culture, identity, ethnicity, race, and social justice within educational systems, with a strong emphasis on creating inclusive and equitable learning environments for diverse student populations. Peer Review Process

Review Policy for Journal of Multicultural Education Studies (JOMES)

1. Introduction
The Journal of Multicultural Education Studies (JOMES) is committed to promoting high-quality research that explores diverse cultural perspectives in the field of education. As part of our commitment to academic rigor and scholarly excellence, we have established a thorough and transparent review policy to ensure that every manuscript published in our journal meets the highest standards of quality, originality, and relevance.

2. Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review process. This means that both the identity of the author(s) and the reviewers are kept anonymous throughout the review process. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two experts in the field of multicultural education.

3. Criteria for Review
The following criteria will guide the review process for all submissions:

  • Relevance to the Field: The manuscript must address issues or topics related to multicultural education, diversity, inclusion, and related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Originality and Contribution: The manuscript should present original research or novel perspectives that significantly contribute to advancing the understanding of multicultural education.
  • Methodology: The research should employ appropriate, clear, and robust research methodologies, whether qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods.
  • Clarity and Structure: The manuscript should be clearly written, well-organized, and logically structured. The introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and discussion should be presented in a coherent and cohesive manner.
  • Literature Review: The manuscript should engage with relevant and up-to-date scholarly literature in the field of multicultural education.
  • Ethical Considerations: The research must adhere to ethical standards and include any necessary disclosures regarding conflicts of interest, funding sources, and ethical approvals.

4. Types of Articles Reviewed
We welcome the submission of the following types of articles for review:

  • Research Articles: Original empirical research that contributes to the knowledge base in multicultural education studies.
  • Theoretical Papers: Conceptual papers that offer new theoretical frameworks or critique existing paradigms in multicultural education.
  • Review Articles: Comprehensive reviews of literature that provide valuable insights into specific areas of multicultural education.
  • Case Studies: Detailed accounts of specific educational settings or programs that address multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion.

5. Reviewer Selection
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in multicultural education and related areas. Our editorial board maintains a pool of qualified reviewers, ensuring a balanced representation of different methodologies, geographical perspectives, and cultural contexts.

6. Reviewer Responsibilities
Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide a fair, impartial, and constructive evaluation of the manuscript.
  • Identify any strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, offering suggestions for improvement.
  • Assess the validity of the research methodology and the soundness of the conclusions drawn.
  • Flag any ethical concerns or issues related to plagiarism or data integrity.
  • Complete the review in a timely manner (within 3–4 weeks) to ensure the prompt processing of submitted manuscripts.

7. Author Responsibilities
Authors are expected to:

  • Submit original, unpublished manuscripts that have not been under review elsewhere.
  • Address all ethical guidelines, including consent and confidentiality, if applicable.
  • Revise and resubmit their manuscripts in response to reviewer feedback, ensuring that all comments and suggestions are addressed appropriately.
  • Acknowledge and disclose any conflicts of interest and funding sources.

8. Decision-Making Process
Based on the reviewers' feedback, the editors will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: The manuscript is suitable for publication without revisions or with minor revisions.
  • Revise and Resubmit: The manuscript requires significant revisions. The author will be asked to address the reviewers' comments and resubmit the revised manuscript for further review.
  • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the standards for publication in JOMES, either due to methodological flaws, lack of contribution, or issues with writing quality.

9. Editorial Board's Role
The Editorial Board is responsible for overseeing the peer review process, making final decisions on manuscript acceptance, and ensuring adherence to ethical publishing standards. The Board will also work to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the review process.

10. Confidentiality
All manuscripts submitted to JOMES are considered confidential. Reviewers, editors, and authors are expected to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript during the entire review and publication process. Manuscripts should not be shared or discussed outside of the review process.

11. Appeal Process
If an author disagrees with the decision made regarding their manuscript, they may submit an appeal to the editorial team. The appeal must include a clear justification for the appeal and may be reviewed by the editorial board. A decision on the appeal will be made within 2–3 weeks.

12. Open Access Policy
JOMES operates under an open access policy, making all published articles freely available to the public. We encourage the dissemination of research to a broad audience, ensuring that scholars, educators, and practitioners have access to important findings in multicultural education.
